    This is an admission guide for students who wish to apply for the regular Korean language course. Please check the eligibility requirements, required documents, admission procedure, tuition, and contact information.

    1. Eligibility

    • Foreign nationals and overseas Koreans who have graduated from high school or have equivalent academic background
    • Applicants who can submit documents certifying their final academic background with the required authentication (Apostille or consular confirmation, etc.) according to their country
    • Applicants who have no disqualification for studying Korean or staying in Korea

    Program Introduction

    Since its establishment in 1969, the Korean Language Education Center of the Seoul National University Language Education Institute has been one of Korea’s leading Korean language institutions, providing Korean language and culture education to foreigners, overseas Koreans, and immigrants residing in Korea for nearly half a century. It offers an optimal learning environment with excellent instructors holding master’s degrees or higher in Korean language education and related fields, and cutting-edge educational facilities.

    • Four semesters a year (Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter), each a 10-week intensive course (total 200 hours)
    • Classes 5 days a week, 4 hours a day (morning 09:00–13:00 / afternoon 13:30–17:20)
    • Levels from Beginner 1 to Advanced 6 + research classes for advanced learners
    • Communication-focused integrated classes with a balanced approach to listening, speaking, reading, and writing

    Application Process

    1. Counseling & Course Selection
      First consultation with the SNU Language Education Institute and a Trenvl planner (select course, time slot, and semester)
    2. Online Application & Document Submission
      Fill out the online application form on the Language Education Institute website (lei.snu.ac.kr/klec).
      Required documents: online application form, study plan, tran or graduation certificate from the last school attended, passport copy, bank balance certificate (for D-4 visa applicants), copy of insurance policy

    3. Document Review & Notification of Acceptance
      The school reviews the documents and notifies successful applicants via email.
    4. Tuition Payment
      Pay tuition via online credit card payment or virtual account transfer.
      (Dormitory applicants pay dormitory fees separately.)
    5. Visa Application & Pre-arrival Preparation
      Prepare the required documents for the D-4 visa → Apply for the visa at the Korean embassy → Book your flight.
    6. Arrival & Placement Test
      Arrive in Korea → Take the placement test → Begin classes.

    Cultural Experience Programs

    • Learning Taekwondo, samulnori (traditional percussion), Korean cooking, and hanji crafts
    • Watching performances, visiting the DMZ/Panmunjom, newspaper companies, and the presidential office
    • Exploring famous spots in Seoul such as palaces, museums, Cheonggyecheon, and traditional hanok villages

    Buddy Program

    A Korean language buddy program connects students 1:1 with SNU undergraduates and students in the Korean language teacher training program. Buddies meet regularly to help with Korean language learning and adjustment to life in Korea.

    Elective Classes (Paid)

    To meet the diverse needs of individual students, elective classes such as Chinese character classes and TOPIK preparation classes are offered.
