The Korean Language Program at the Hansung Institute of Language Education began in the spring semester of 2005 and has since been dedicated to helping international students from many different countries prepare for admission to Korean universities and graduate schools. Since its launch in 2005, the Hansung University Korean Language Program has supported international students who aim to enter Korean universities or graduate schools. The program combines language training with academic preparation so that learners can adapt smoothly to higher education in Korea.
Regular Course · 4 Semesters per Year
The regular course operates four semesters a year (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter). Each semester runs for 10 weeks, with classes 5 days a week and 4 hours per day, for a total of 200 class hours. Students are placed from Level 1 to Level 6 according to their proficiency, and develop balanced skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Hansung University Korean Language Program – Admission Guidelines
This guide provides information for overseas applicants who wish to enroll in the Hansung University Korean Language Program. Please carefully review the eligibility requirements, application steps, required documents, tuition & fees, and contact details.
1. Eligibility
- Overseas applicants who have completed high school (or higher) at the time of application.
- Applicants who can submit all required original documents; documents in languages other than Korean or English must be translated into Korean or English and notarized.
- Applicants who are able to obtain an appropriate visa (e.g. D-4 Korean language training visa) and have no disqualifying reasons for staying in Korea.
- Applicants who agree to comply with Hansung University regulations, Korean immigration laws, and attendance requirements of the Korean Language Program.
2. Admission Procedure
- Complete the application form and prepare all required documents.
- Submit the application and documents (by post, in person, or as instructed by Hansung University).
- Document screening by Hansung University (additional documents may be requested if necessary).
- Notification of admission result to each applicant individually.
- Payment of tuition through the virtual account issued to the admitted applicant.
- Issuance of Certificate of Admission and final confirmation of enrollment.

※ If you wish to cancel the program after admission, you must submit a written cancellation request to Hansung University.
Before the new semester begins, 100% of the tuition fee can be refunded; however, the application fee is non-refundable.

3. Required Documents (Overseas Applicants)
All applicants must submit original documents. Documents must be written in Korean or English. If documents are issued in another language, a Korean or English translation must be attached and notarized. The list below is a standard template; depending on the applicant’s country and visa type, additional documents may be requested.

4. Admission & Visa Regulations (Summary)
- If any submitted document is found to be falsified or forged, admission may be revoked and enrollment or completion records may be cancelled even after entry into Korea.
- Submitted documents are not returned in principle.
- The language training visa (D-4) for Korean Language Program students cannot exceed a total of two years. Students must extend their visa before the expiry date each semester.
- Any change in the student’s status (address, school, visa type, etc.) must be reported to the immigration office and Hansung University within 14 days.
- If the attendance rate falls below the required standard, students may receive warnings or be dismissed from the program, which can lead to visa problems.

Curriculum and Textbooks
Level 1 Korean Language Regular Course Curriculum (Beginner)
Level 1 is designed for students who are learning Korean for the first time. Learners acquire the Korean alphabet (Hangul), basic pronunciation, and core sentence patterns, and practice essential expressions used in everyday life such as greetings, self-introduction, simple shopping, transportation, and school life.
1. Learning Objectives
- Understand and use key beginner-level vocabulary and grammar structures required for Level 1.
- Communicate in simple everyday situations using short, basic sentences (greetings, self-introduction, shopping, etc.).
- Read and write Hangul accurately and understand short, simple written texts related to daily life.
- Introduce oneself and provide basic personal information such as nationality, major, hobbies, and daily routines.
2. Course Contents
- Pronunciation: Hangul consonants and vowels, basic syllable structure, batchim (final consonants), simple sound changes, and basic intonation for statements and questions.
- Grammar: Basic word order (Subject–Object–Verb), present/past/future tense, topic/subject/object/location particles, numbers and counters, polite endings (-요), and introductory honorific forms.
- Vocabulary: Everyday words related to self-introduction, nationality and family, school life, food and restaurants, shopping, transportation, weather, and daily routines.
- Conversation: Greetings, self-introduction, asking and answering simple questions, telling the time and date, describing basic locations, and using expressions for ordering food and shopping.
- Reading & Writing: Reading short dialogues and notices, understanding simple signs and schedules, writing short sentences and filling out basic forms (name, address, contact information, etc.).

- Self-introduction presentations and pair interviews to exchange basic personal information.
- Number, date, and time practice through games, quizzes, and short speaking activities.
- Using campus maps or subway maps to practice location and direction expressions.
- Restaurant role-plays using real or sample menus to practice ordering food and paying the bill.
