Introduction to the CAU Korean Language Program
The Korean Language Program at Chung-Ang University’s Institute of Language Education is a systematic and intensive course for international students who wish to improve their Korean proficiency and experience academic life in Korea. Since its launch in 2004, the program has welcomed thousands of learners from around the world each year at both the Seoul and Anseong (Da Vinci) campuses, offering integrated training in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, as well as support for TOPIK preparation and admission to CAU undergraduate and graduate programs.
Key Features of the CAU Korean Language Program
Systematic 6-Level Curriculum
The regular course is offered from Level 1 (beginner) to Level 6 (advanced), allowing students to develop their skills step by step. A placement test ensures that each learner is assigned to a class that matches their current proficiency and learning goals, from basic communication to academic preparation.
Intensive Term-Based Study
The Korean Language Program operates four terms per year, with approximately 10 weeks per term, five days of class per week, and four class hours per day. This intensive structure helps students improve their Korean proficiency in a relatively short period while maintaining a consistent study rhythm.
Experienced and Dedicated Instructors
Courses are taught by instructors who specialize in Korean language education and have extensive classroom experience. Lessons are communication-oriented and integrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing, with regular assessments and feedback to help students identify their strengths, address weaknesses, and plan their next steps in learning.
Cultural Experience & Campus Life
In addition to classroom study, students can join various cultural activities, such as Korean cultural experience programs, field trips, language exchange events, and campus festivals. These opportunities help learners adapt to life in Korea, build friendships with CAU students, and enjoy vibrant campus life in the heart of Seoul and at the Anseong campus.
Course Structure and Term Operation
- Four regular terms per year (spring, summer, fall, winter), approximately 10 weeks per term
- Classes held Monday to Friday, around 4 hours per day (about 200 hours per term)
- Six proficiency levels (Level 1–6) with placement test before the term begins
- Integrated training in speaking, listening, reading, and writing for practical communication
- Cultural activities, field trips, and language exchange programs offered each term
