The Regular Program at Yonsei University Korean Language Institute, under the Institute of Language Research and Education, is the first Korean language education institution in Korea, established in 1959. Completion & Promotion Criteria (Regular Program)
Completion Requirements
- Attendance: Students must attend at least 80% of the 200 class hours per semester to complete the course.
(If the number of absences is excessive, students may fail regardless of exam scores.) - Grades: Final grades are determined by combining midterm and final evaluations in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as assignments and participation.
In general, students must achieve an overall score of at least 60 points in the Regular Program to complete the course and be eligible for promotion (specific criteria may vary by semester; refer to official announcements).
Promotion Limitations & Important Notes
- Promotion may be restricted if attendance falls below the required standard or exam scores are significantly low.
- If a student repeatedly fails the same level, future registration may be restricted.
- Only students who meet the grade and attendance requirements are placed in classes for the next semester and promoted to higher levels.

Yonsei University Korean Language Institute Regular Program Admissions Guidelines (Application Guide)
This is the admissions guide for students who wish to apply for the regular Korean language program at Yonsei University Korean Language Institute. Please check the eligibility, required documents, admission procedure, tuition fees, and contact information to prepare for the regular course (10 weeks · 200 hours) language training.
1. Eligibility
- Foreign nationals and overseas Koreans who have graduated from high school or have an equivalent level of education
※ For qualifications such as GED, home-schooling, etc., recognition may vary depending on the regulations of each country, so separate inquiry is required. - Applicants who can submit documents proving their highest level of education in accordance with the certification procedures of the relevant country (Apostille or consular confirmation, etc.)
- Applicants who have no disqualifying reasons for taking Korean language classes or staying in the Republic of Korea
- For applicants of the language training visa (D-4-1), a minimum of 2 consecutive semesters (approximately 6 months) of enrollment is required

⚠️ Important Notes
- D-4-1 visa applicants: You must register for at least 2 semesters (about 6 months) in order to receive the Certificate of Admission (standard admission letter). (Some countries require registration for 4 semesters.)
- Countries designated by the Ministry of Justice / overstay control countries: For certain African, Middle Eastern, South Asian countries, and countries such as the Philippines and Peru, document and financial reviews are strengthened, and 4-semester (1-year) enrollment and additional financial documents may be required.
- Certain nationalities such as Vietnam and Uzbekistan: Financial guarantee documents such as bank balance certificates and family relationship certificates are reviewed more strictly, and detailed requirements follow the institute’s official notices.
2. Admission Procedure
- Fill out the online application
Sign up on the Yonsei University Korean Language Institute website (under the Online Application menu), then complete and submit the regular course online application. - Pay the application fee
Pay the application fee of 100,000 KRW (non-refundable) – via online payment or bank transfer according to the institute’s instructions. - Upload required documents and submit originals
Upload scanned copies of the required documents to the online application page.
D-4-1 visa applicants must submit the original documents to the institute’s administration office by mail or in person. - Document screening
After confirming online application, payment of the application fee, and receipt of documents, the document screening is conducted (usually takes about 1–2 weeks, but may be delayed depending on circumstances). - Announcement of acceptance
Check the admission result via the KLI academic information system or through individual notification. - Payment of tuition (course fee)
Pay the regular course tuition fee of 1,860,000 KRW (per semester) by the registration deadline. - Issuance of Certificate of Admission
For D-4-1 visa applicants, the Certificate of Admission (standard admission letter) is issued about one month before the semester begins, after registration is completed. - Visa application and entry
Apply for a D-4-1 or C-3 visa at the Korean Embassy/Consulate with jurisdiction over your place of residence → Enter Korea after the visa is issued.

Mandatory Conditions for D-4-1 Visa Applicants
- You must register for at least 2 semesters (about 6 months) of the regular course at once to be eligible for the Certificate of Admission.
- After completing the online application, the original application documents must arrive at the KLI administration office by post or in person at least 2 weeks before the document submission deadline.
- Some nationalities designated by the Ministry of Justice are required to register for 4 semesters (1 year) and submit additional financial documents.

4. Admission Regulations (Summary)
- If any submitted document is found to be forged or falsified, admission may be cancelled, completion/grades invalidated, and future applications restricted.
- Submitted documents are not returned in principle.
- Regardless of admission approval, visa screening is conducted by each country’s immigration/embassy, and the school does not guarantee visa issuance.
- Admission screening begins only after the online application is submitted, the application fee is paid, and the arrival of the (original) documents is confirmed.
- Document screening usually takes about 1–2 weeks, but may take longer depending on the number of applicants and stricter screening by certain countries.

6. Refund Policy (Regular Program, 10 Weeks / 50 Days)

Level 1 Regular Korean Course Curriculum (Beginner 1)
The Level 1 Regular Course at Yonsei University Korean Language Institute starts from reading and writing Hangul consonants and vowels, and moves on to basic expressions and simple sentence structures frequently used in daily life. It is an introductory beginner course designed to help first-time learners of Korean build basic communication skills.
1. Learning Objectives
